A few months ago, CA has a Paralegal who was at the end of his term requesting me to conduct an 'Exit Interview' with him before he embark to complete his last year of his law degree. Here is the conversation as I recollect:

Q: Now tell me what has changed in you from the day you joined CA 6 months ago?
A: I learned that I need to be more confident.
Q: So you are not more confident than you were?
A: I am learning to be.
Q: Why are you not confident?
A: Because I am afraid to make mistake.
Q: Why are you afraid to make mistake?
A: Mmm... May be I am not confident...
Q: Don't give me the same answer and let's answer my question again on why are you afraid to make mistake?
A: Er... I am afraid of the consequence of making mistake, the scolding and the humiliation...
Q: So, you are not confident because you are fearful of facing the consequence of mistake?
A: Yes.
Q: So, you are not ready to make mistake?
A: Yes.
Q: When will you be ready? 10 years from now? 20 years from now? When you are the bread winner of the family to take care of your wife, your children and your ageing parent?
A: No...
Q: So, you will never be ready then?
A: Mmm...
Q: So, you will never be confident then?
A: Err...
Q: So, what is the best time to make mistake?
A: Now.
Q: Why?
A: Because I can still afford to. Nothing to lose now.
Q: By that definition, you should be a very confident man now?
A: Yes.
Q: Here is the message to you: Being confident is all about your readiness to make mistake and your ability to deal with the consequences of making mistake. All the best!

There you go... We all have the answers in us one way or another.
