When you recovered slower from sickness than the last time you fell ill, it's a reminder that you are not as exuberant as you were. That's kind of like knowing your limits; you are never a Superman for a start. Never ignore the communication your body battled to reach you.
This is where your will power is not driving you no matter how strong your will is. This can only mean that there are more to just having strong will! Will power is the driver but you must also consider the capacity of the vehicle that you drive and the nature of the race that you are in.
One of the lessons in life that I learned is that higher energy almost always wins. A simple enough formula, but I have problems for it is relative to the competition (the need to be highER); there is a lot of wastage (not efficient) in the out run or overtaking process; and there is a limit to the amount of energy one can generate individually.
Next is to consider what you are winning - just a battle or the ultimate war? If you over commit your energy (resources) to win the interesting battles, would the balance energy enough to win the war?
From the same lesson, it is certain not GREEN for that it is not sustainable in a long run and it is not an efficient use of energy that allows you to win the war.
Sir Alex Ferguson is an old hat in this and the knighthood only confirms that he is the grand master of modern football. Having delivered trophy after trophy to Old Trafford for more than two decades, Manchester United is actually a GREEN proposition that is built (and continue building) for SUCESSS! The never give up and winning mentality are both the threads within the fabric of Manchester United and the legion of Red Army all over the world that proudly claimed themselves as the Devils!
However, this strong mentality is not the only ingredient in the GREEN magic potion of United, there are equally important ingredients to make it happen too like:
The Players - it's always a blend of youth and experienced; the academy graduates and the imported talents, the workhorses and the show ponies, all in the name of the TEAM with the players on rotation to take on the many frontiers. The players are great supports to each other notwithstanding that they are competing for the same spot in the team and there is no guarantee of place in the next game.
The Back Room - a stable back room staff with loads internal succession; and an assistant manager that took off the burden of training regime from Gaffer with innovation from Kidd to McClaren to Queiroz to Phelan now worked through the rank to be the where he is today.
The Commander - there is only one in this Club, ask the like of Keane, Stam, van Nistelrooy and Beckham. You step on the line; you are out no matter how BIG a star you are.
The Priority - the Gaffer knows the games well and rank his preferences of competitions clearly. Winning a league with accumulation of points is a different ball game from the romantic play-off of cup competitions. The efficient use of all resources will ensure maximum return from all fronts. Not every season can be the Treble Winning Season in 1999. There was a chance to repeat the feat this season but it was just too taxing on the team resources thus the lowest ranked FA Cup is 'adjusted'.
The Commitment by the Club - TIME is often a luxury that modern football managers do not have (Carlos Ancelotti can certainly testify to that in Chelsea for finishing second notwithstanding his triumphant first season as Champion) but Manchester United stick by Sir Alex Ferguson through thick and thin especially in the initial years before the first trophy delivered. As a result, Fergie is building his fourth and fifth team in United with constant flow of glories.
So, are you learning a thing or two from the Grand Master? It's a TEAM sport after all.
Mark my words, there will be TWO trophies on show come 30 May 2011 where the Devils are parading the record breaking "CHAMP19NS" for the unprecedented 19 times!
