Procrastination is certainly not acceptable. I must try and overcome it as I have really taken time to write my Management Journal for August 2006 and still working on it on this last day of August 2006. I have read something interesting recently on this issue and share it soon in greater details.

The key to overcome procrastination is to get started. I did it with this Journal when I started my pen in mid August but need wait until this last day to work on it. Well, here you go as I have separated the two bits in different colours:

(My apology for the non-currency of the current issues discussed in the first bit.)

“Yet another World Cup passes me by, within a blink and that’s another four (4) years to go. Ever since my first midnight encounter with it in 1990 (where a certain Cannigia goal break the deadlock within a clear Brazilian’s match dominance), I have never failed to anticipate the next spark of the beautiful game.

Yet few would have predicted an Azzuri’s victory but most would remember the 16 yellow cards and 3 reds in 90 minutes, 1 red after 3 yellows (may God save the Poll, if he know how to count), the non-existence of certain Brazilian No.10, the sending off of you-know-who Rooney, the wink and tears of Ronaldo and the better and now equally famous use of Zidane bald head. Personally, for most Malaysian football fans would some what relates this World Cup with horse-riding. Thanks to the No.1 Brand in healthcare massager for keeping us all awake in middle of the night with those cheerful cow-girls.

Yet while there should be life after the World Cup, it seems to get more hectic for me. My desire for change and differentiation has driven me further than I would imagine. I have tie up officially with a professional outfit in New Zealand to commence my journey to be the business solution provider of choice in the East Asian 10 + 6 proposition. Yes, effective 1 August 2006, CA have an office in Auckland. Check out our website www.churassociates.com to learn more about our Associate Consultant – Mr Chan Tuck Loong (sorry for those of you who are expecting KIWI flavour in this one!). By the way, as you are reading this, we have just launched our new look CA Web, check it out and let us know your view!

In fact, I was in Singapore last weekend purposely to explore a potential alliance with a Vietnamese lawyer friend of mine. I sincerely believe that Vietnam is enormous in opportunities, let’s hope I can bring your more good news on this. Certainly, strategic alliance for regionalization is the way forward especially for Malaysians.

I chaired the proceedings in the recently held Malaysia Agro-Bio Business Conference at the PWTC and learned a great deal about this heavily promoted industry of our nation. I drafted presentation material on “Entrepreneurship in this Global Village” and presented one myself at the Star Learning Skills 2006 on “E-ntrepreneur E-mpowerment” defining and defusing both the E-myths of the E in entrepreneurs and the E in the cyber world of the internet.

Then, I have gone back to my root again to speak to the overwhelming audience of the FIABCI Smart Investment in Property Seminar held in the Securities Commission recently, on “How to own a property legally?”. Recently, I am most honoured to be elected to serve FIABCI Malaysia as a member of the National Committee for the next two years. Thank you for the support and confident, I hope to return in kind.

Now, I am at the last stage of the preparation for the inaugural East Asia SME Business Forum 2006 (“SMEBIF”) on 24-25 August 2006 at the PWTC, Kuala Lumpur being the Executive Secretary of SME International Malaysia (www.smeinternational.org). I shall be moderating one of the sessions of the forum too and hopefully this shall be a worthwhile experience for those of you that are attending this SMEBIF. By the time you read this, it’s done and over and I would like thank all of you who have attended the same and made it a genuine success.

On top of that, I still continuing my quest to lobby supports and add strengths to my new baby “NCF™ CHUR ASSOCIATES” , a definite value-adder to the whole CA experience. We are planning to launch it in the coming GLOBAL SME 2006 at the PWTC from 24 to 26 August 2006 (Please come and visit us!). By then, we shall share with you “your money otherwise” . Please watch this space. Well, the idea is now posted on www.yourmoneyotherwise.com ; please log on to learn more about this idea, we welcome your comment to ncf@churassociates.com .

Yet, I am disturbed lately due to the blink-like enlightenment that I am having after all these years. I am disturbed because

  1. I am creating jobs for myself through CA and not building a “business” ever since I started CA more than 30 months ago;
  2. I realized the message I keep repeating to those people who have congratulated me for being my own boss that is:
    When you are working, you have only one boss; when you are your own boss, everyone else is your boss!

    can not be anymore accurate as I have known it long ago but failed to recognize the message behind it – most self-employed peoples or bosses are not actually doing business but doing many jobs instead of one;
  3. I cannot afford to take my hand off CA for even a day (that explains my worries every time I travel) judging the amount of complaints that I received every time I try to let go and delegate;
  4. CA is not the reason for clients who require legal services but rather to a large extent, sadly I am! and
  5. I am always on “survival” mode because deep down I knew it all along that it is so easy to lose a client and the fact that there is no stable recurrent income in a legal practice as we go by the files.

These are all scary realizations, I hope it does challenge your though in one way or another. This explain why we subscribe to insurance that give us protection when we are ill and perhaps the success of MLM in recurring income on leverage – the great idea of system based income without “working”.

Against all reservations, I am determined to build a “business” out of my legal practice. I want my business to be able to replicate. I want recurring income rather than one-time fees.

I need to explore a model that can be self sufficient and everyone in the business owns it one way or another. As I set my path to sell “green sugar”, I shall continue to my ultimate quest to create more green sugar merchants to sell my brand of sugar. This made it worthwhile, otherwise I can never retire as a sugar merchant – lawyer. There is no value created in my practice if I continue to do things the way it is.

I welcome your idea and comments on this little enlightenment of mine.

Just a gentle reminder, it is time to plan for next year! My crusade for 2007 starts tomorrow after the budget announcement. My remaining mission for this year is to consolidate and be ready for the next challenge.
